New Campus Development
By Stan Shelton

As you know, we suspended construction of the new hospital campus in January due to the economic downturn and the resulting collapse of the credit markets.  Since then, additional factors have emerged that impact our timing for moving forward with the project:

  • The greater Baton Rouge area is now beginning to feel some of the economic decline other regions of the nation have been grappling with for months.

  • We have experienced some drop in patient volumes.

  • The hospital’s investment portfolio has experienced some losses.

Two other significant issues have also arisen:

  • The uncertainty of how national healthcare reform will impact us

  • The proposed cuts in provider payments by the State’s Medicaid program.

We Can Do This!
By Teri Fontenot

Savings related to our We Can Do This initiative remain at $7.5 million.  The amount will increase as further savings are identified, and decrease as unanticipated expenses are incurred.

  • Our Employee Suggestion Program savings has increased to $77,659!  There will be a special surprise for all employees when we reach our intermediate goal of $100,000 in program-related savings, so keep those suggestions coming.
