  Lilly Oncology on Canvas
March 30 - May 6
Main Lobby
Woman’s Hospital

Woman’s Hospital Oncology staff invites you to view Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey. More than 40 pieces from the 2006 international art competition are featured in the hospital's main lobby. Lilly Oncology on Canvas is a traveling art exhibit, which focuses on capturing the 'Expressions of a Cancer Journey'. Chosen from over 2,000 entries from 43 countries, these works of art will inspire and encourage you. They express the life-affirming changes that give the cancer journey meaning and enable individuals to walk the path of emotions that cancer survivors, their families, friends and caregivers experience.

“The painting (left) shows my friend Lucy. After learning she had cancer she first thought her days were numbered, but the painting shows how she looked out at the world and decided to keep her spirit strong,” said Isabel Quinones-Martin, Lilly winner and artist of 'Embrace Life'.

Presented by Eli Lilly and Company in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.

Hat’s Off to All the NUR Users!

Implementation of computerized nursing documentation began Tuesday, March 13 in the Postpartum, Antepartum and Labor and Delivery departments. The Meditech NUR module allows nurses and other care providers to view and update patient information. Mobile carts are being used to provide point of care nursing documentation in all areas. Desktop computers are available at each nurse’s station.

The NUR core team has worked with Information Systems staff on this project for two years.  Over 300 nurses were trained in preparation for this implementation and several staff members received extra training to become Super Users for their departments. To prepare for a smooth transition, the NUR core team met with staff from departments impacted by this change.  The goal was to identify what each department needs from the medical record and develop a process for obtaining that information.  Staff members are adjusting to the change and are very positive about the new process.  Congratulations to all!

Race for the Cure
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure took place on Saturday, March 10.  Over 140 Woman's Hospital employees volunteered for the event.  Volunteers helped with registration, volunteer recruitment and registration, distribution of water and food items as well as many other areas.  We also gave out information regarding hospital services to the 8,000 people that attended.

The mobile coach was on-site for interested participants to tour.

Special thanks to all the volunteers for their help and to Lynn Griggs and Carol Reed for coordinating the volunteers!
