Melissa Martin, registered dietitian, has recently joined the Woman's Hospital team and will be providing her services both at the Hospital and the Wellness Center. Melissa is a native of Baton Rouge and a graduate of Louisiana State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. Melissa will provide nutrition programming and counseling to the members of Woman’s Center for Wellness and will help members overcome weight loss barriers and get one step closer to achieving optimal health and wellness. Be on the look out for new nutritional services. Services will include evening presentations, individual consultations, and cooking classes. You will soon find a nutrition question drop box located in the lobby. Please drop off any nutrition related questions you may have. She will provide answers and insight to the questions. Starting May 8th, Melissa’s office hours will be Tuesdays 2:30 - 6:30PM, Wednesdays 8AM-Noon, the first Saturday of the month 8AM-Noon, and for the early birds, the last Wednesday of the month the hours will change to 6-10AM. For the past two years, Melissa has worked in local area hospitals such as Ochsner of Baton Rouge and VitalSource Specialty Hospital. As an LSU undergraduate Melissa worked at Pennington Biomedical Research Center where she assisted research dietitians in program development, nutrition counseling and group education. In addition, she has experience assisting and teaching cooking classes and demonstrations. She provided community nutrition education and staff relief for medical nutrition therapist while completing a one-year internship at North Oaks Health System in Hammond, La. The Louisiana Society for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing held their annual awards ceremony on Friday, April 27. Pelican Awards are given each year to honor exemplary efforts in hospital public relations and marketing among Louisiana Hospital Association members.
