New Appointment

Jaquetta Clemons has been appointed to the faculty of the Clinical Leadership Development Academy of LSU's Health Care Services Division (HCSD). She is teaching accounting and budget principles to managers from the state's public hospitals.

Saturday, May 19
Baby Grand, presented by Woman’s Hospital, invites expectant parents to the biggest and best baby fair in the area. The semi-annual event offers a collection of activities for expectant families, including meeting with vendors, tours of Woman’s Hospital, meeting with pediatricians and attending a variety of workshops. Each year, more than 1,200 expectant families attend this big event. Woman’s Hospital, 8:30 am. - 1:00 pm.

Tuesday, June 5
CAMP ABC. CAMP ABC is an 8-session program which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The class is designed for children 5-6 years of age to address motor coordination, letter formation and reading readiness.  Session 1 starts June 6 from 9:00 am – Noon and session 2 starts July 10 from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. TEAM Readers. TEAM Readers is an 8-session program for elementary-aged children who struggle with reading and/or read below grade level.  The class meets once a week starting on June 6. For more information, call therapy services at 924-8450.

Wednesday, June 13
Body Basics for Boys. Learning how their bodies grow, what changes to expect during puberty, and how to take care of themselves are valuable lessons for young teens. Body Basics offers those lessons for boys ages 10 - 13.  Class includes informal, open discussions, a film presentation, and take-home materials as well as a brief and simple introduction to the opposite sex. It is recommended that a parent or trusted adult accompany each young teen. By taking the class together, you and your young teen can continue these important discussions at home.  Woman's Hospital Conference Rooms 2 and 3, $15 per child,

Ready Set Jump into Preschool. Ready Set Jump into Preschool is an 8-session program designed to prepare children 4-5 years of age for preschool. Classes start Tuesday, July 12 and run through August 2 from 8:00 - 9:30 am. For more information, call therapy services at 924-8450.

Promotions

Donna Bodin has accepted the position of Vice President for Employee Services. Her areas of responsibility include Human Resources, Staff Development, Volunteer Services and Employee Health. She will also be assisting in an overall review of education services throughout the hospital.

Donna has been employed at Woman’s Hospital since 1995, as an HR Representative, HR Manager, and most recently, the Director of Human Resources. Donna has over twenty years' experience in the field of healthcare human resources management.

Jaquetta Clemons has accepted the position of Director of Research, Grants and Appropriations.

Lori Denstel, BSN, RNC, MBA has accepted the position of Director of Nursing Administration.  Lori has worked at Woman’s since 1997 in a variety of positions, including staff nurse in Antepartal, Clincial Educator in Perinatal Services, Nurse Manager of L&D, and most recently Nurse Manager of Nursing Informatics.

Sherry Fontenot Poss has been named director of managed care at Woman’s Hospital.  Poss has worked at Woman’s Hospital for the past 22 years and was previously the manager of the managed care department.

In 1984, Poss graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in pharmaceutical medicine and began working in the hospital’s pharmacy in 1985.  She also has a master’s in health administration from Tulane University. She began working in the managed care department as a coordinator and worked her way to manager and now director. She has worked in the managed care department at Woman’s Hospital for 11 years.

Darcy Gann, BS, RNC has accepted the position of Director of Center for Newborn and Infant Care (NICU).  Darcy has worked in the NICU at Woman’s since 1991, in a variety of positions.  For the past 8 years, she has functioned as the Nurse Manager. In addition, Darcy will receive a Master’s of Science in Nursing Administration from OLOL College in May, 2007.

Staci Sullivan, RN, MN has accepted the position as Vice President, Infant/Pediatric Services.  Staci has been employed at Woman’s Hospital since 1988.  Staci has worked here as a staff nurse, clinical educator, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, and most recently the Director of Special Care Nurseries.  Staci has both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Nursing, and she is also licensed as an advanced practice nurse in adult/psychiatric nursing.

Jazz for the Heart
Last year, Harry Allen and his quartet released “Jazz for the Heart,” the second in what promises to be a four-set series of recordings under the McMahon Jazz Medicine label. Their first effort, “Jazz for the Soul,” successfully showcased the tenorist’s mastery over his instrument, confirming his place as one of the greatest proponents of melodic jazz today.
