40 Extraordinary Years

Rosemary Smith & MFM employees

She was the first Woman’s Hospital employee to celebrate a 40th anniversary, and the last of the original Woman’s Hospital employees.  Rosemary Smith started working here before our doors opened on November 18, 1968 -- before our first patient was cared for.  She was in the room when Marguerite Ann Wingate, Woman’s Hospital’s first baby was born.

Joyce Ashford Crick, Rosemary Smith, Dr. Hale, Sherry Noel and Lynn Griggs

Rosemary worked in Labor and Delivery for 22 years, so she has been around for countless births.  The rest of her career was spent in perinatology and then Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Rosemary Smith & Dr. Stedman

About 200 friends, co-workers, and former co-workers joined Rosemary and her husband to celebrate her retirement on Wednesday, October 15.  Rosemary welcomed a new grandbaby into the world this month, and plans to spend a lot of time with all of her grandchildren.

Rosemary, thank you for 40 years of service to the women and children of Baton Rouge.  We’ll miss you!
