Kristy Simmons was nominated by the AORN National President to serve on the National Membership Committee for the 2008-2009 year. She had the opportunity to travel to Denver to attend the Leadership Conference and served as Regional Coordinator for the southern states of Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. THANK YOU Thank you to the wonderful librarians, Gay Middleton and Louise McLaughlin, for assisting the nursing staff. Their support of our nurses who are going back to school, writing articles or researching new surgical procedures deserves to be recognized. Not only do they get the necessary information quickly but they are great at finding new sources. |
The tenth annual, all-female golf tournament is scheduled to be held Monday, October 20, at the Country Club of Louisiana. Proceeds from the event benefit breast cancer outreach, education and research at Woman’s Hospital. Since its inception, funds raised have exceeded $700,000, all of which benefit the women in our community and surrounding communities affected by this disease. “This is such a worthy cause and we are committed to reaching our goal to help the women of this community affected by breast cancer,” said Francine Groves, WVO chair.
“Because of the funds generated through the Women’s Victory Open, we were able to provide women in our community with more research programs, breast health education, and mammography outreach services,” said Teri G. Fontenot, president/CEO of Woman’s Hospital. AppointmentGovernor Bobby Jindal announced Lucie Agosta was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. The Louisiana State Board of Nursing serves to ensure that persons practicing as registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses are sufficiently trained and licensed. According to statute, the board shall be composed of eleven gubernatorial appointments including the following: eight registered nurses selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana State Nurses Association, one certified registered nurse selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Ltd. and two physicians selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana State Medical Society, which will serve as ex-officio members of the board and will serve only as advisors to the board and not vote. Lucie Agosta is a nurse practitioner at Woman’s Hospital and is an assistant professor at Southeastern University Nursing School. Agosta will serve as a representative of the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
The purpose of this study was to examine personal, cultural, social, and environmental factors that influence a woman’s decision to breastfeed. Poster topics were related to the convention's theme and goals and addressed challenges in women’s health, obstetric and neonatal nursing practice, education or administration.
