Focus on Philanthropy
By Lynn Weill

The eleventh annual Woman’s Victory Open (WVO) golf tournament, held Monday, October 12, at the Country Club of Louisiana, netted more than $134,000.  Since its inception, funds raised have exceeded $934,000, which benefit underserved women in Baton Rouge and the surrounding communities.

The funds generated through the Woman’s Victory Open benefit the breast cancer outreach and education programs offered by Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge and in the nine-parish area surrounding the city.   Early detection of breast cancer through Woman’s mobile mammography outreach program is saving lives thanks in part to the Woman’s Victory Open.

Pretty in Pink Contest

Dovie Brady shines in head to toe pink!

Intertwined with the golf was a little fashion.  The Pretty in Pink   contest recognized the ladies sporting the best pink attire. Karen Martin, The Advocate, applied her knowledge from her fashion column, Style File, to judge the contest.

This year’s best ensemble went to Dovie Brady with her head to toe pink wardrobe.  Best dressed team included Brenda Guy, Charlotte Muniz, Susan Brazan, and Gail Steinmetz with their sparkling hat.  Brenda said her team’s strategy was to blind their opponent with the sparkle off their hats.  Elizabeth Querbes was awarded the best message shirt for her ‘Pink Power’ tee.

Celebrity Putting Contest

Local celebrities were on-hand to help make a difference for the cause. The competitors included

·        Erin Cofiell, Sports Report, WAFB-TV

·        Karen Martin, Assistant People Editor, The Advocate
·        Diana Vincent, City Social Magazine
